Detox Diets
Detox diets are not only a waste of time but a major health issue. Most detox diets cause you to lose water weight, which makes it seem like the detoxification is working. However, the loss of all that water means that your body is also losing much-needed nutrients and electrolytes. Prolonged use of detox diets has put people in the hospital for dehydration, desalination of body tissues (excess loss of salt), low potassium levels and even fainting. Because the creators of detox diets already know this, they instruct followers and users of their detox diets to not do the diet for more than a week. Ergo, you are absolutely wasting your time and doing a lot of damage to your body in the process.

For an overall health fix closer to the brain, ear candling is what can be used. This health trend is truly insane. It is the modern version of the snake oil salesman of the Wild West. If you were to take the cone that is used in the candling process and break it open, you would see a small wad of substance down in the tip of the cone. Applying heat to this substance causes it to expand upward, and inside the candling cone, it looks as though the process has actually drawn out ear wax. If you were to have a doctor look at the ear wax in your ear, then have the doctor administer the ear candling process to that ear and check it again for wax content, the doctor would find the exact same amount of wax in your ear as before.
Still, if you want to risk lighting your hair and skin on fire, go ahead and put a lighted wax paper straw close to your ear and head. You may have more luck burning your whole ear and destroying wax that way than an ear candling. Oh, and you should definitely forget about removing impurities and clearing your sinuses via ear candling; there is no solid proof that this trend even comes close to that.
Fasting On Just Water
It is true that the body can go almost a month without food, longer if you have a lot of fat stores. It is also true that your body cannot go more than three days without water. After reality shows like Survivor show people surviving on very little food and just enough fresh water, the fool-hardy public decided to try fasting diets where only water is consumed.
The problem with fasting is that your fat stores are the last tissues to be consumed by your body. Your body goes after the proteins first, which are your muscles. Your muscles are completely wasted to the bone after a few weeks, making it impossible to move and coordinate any movement at all. When there is no more healthy muscle for your body to consume, it goes after the fat stores. Most people who attempt this kind of dangerous fasting diet can barely move or think by the time their bodies are about to go after the fat stores. It is then that they return to eating, and to make up for the complete loss of food for so long, their bodies slow their metabolisms to an absolute crawl. They then discover that their fat stores double, even triple, while their depleted muscles slowly regain strength. The “diet” completely works against you, which is why it is a complete and utter waste of time and literally a complete waste of important body tissues.
Instead of falling for these health risking diets, the tried and true tested methods of eating well and exercising are still the best option to get summer ready.
